Last February 3, 2012 we celebrated Peace Day at our shool with the CEIP CASTELAO from Navia, Vigo.
Below is a video and a letter to show you more about what we did. Iria from Grade 5 wrote her opinions about Peace Day in an e-mail to a Pen- Pal in The States.
Enjoy them!

Dear Annalise,
Do you celebrate in your country Peace Day? In Spain we celebrate it the 30th. of January. Peace Day is a time to celebrate Peace on Earth.
This year we celebrated it in our courtyard with the school CEIP ALFONSO RODRÍGUEZ CASTELAO of the area of Vigo, Navia the 3rd. of January 2012, that is, the closest Friday its Day.
First of all, each child had a sticker of different shapes and colors, like a blue circle, a red square, etc. They should meet the teacher holding the same sign.
When we were all distributed in a circle, we danced and sang a song. In the central circle were the 3 years old students. In the second circle were 4 and 5 years old students. In the 3rd. circle were Grade 1 and 2 of Primary Education. In the 4th. circle were the students of Grade 3 and 4 of Primary Education. And, finally, in the exterior circle were the oldest of the school, the Veterans… like us Grade 5 and 6. It was great fun!
After singing the song, we looked for the teacher who was holding our shape and color to begin the games, like the cooperative chairs, which consists on walking around chairs in a circle while the music is playing. However, when the music stops, we must sit down on a chair and nobody could remain standing up. It is a cooperative game and all the students should help one another to sit down.
Another game was “BRUI, BRUI”. In this game there were students who could see and others who couldn´t. If a blind child touches another blind child, he says “BRUI, BRUI” and the other blind child answers the same. But, if a blind child touches a child that can´t see, that child doesn´t say anything and the blind one removes his mask and he can see.
After the games we had a snack. The teachers gave us a sandwich of “NOCILLA” and a pineapple juice. We talked to our new friends.
Later on, we sang a farewell song called “Amiguiños todos” and released a dove of Peace. It was very exciting!
Finally, our new friends went back to their school.
Bye new friends, byyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To conclude with, I´d like to say that this day made us better, more friendly, happier, etc…….This day WAS very POSITIVE. We made new friends, we played a lot, we made exercise and… the most important thing…WE MADE PEACE…!!!!!!!!!!!
I can´t wait to hear your news.
Iria.
